Vanderbilt Children's Hospital ROM project
March 24, 2004 - Hollywood, CA
The Elf Foundation: The Elf Foundation is a non-profit charity based in California, which works as a catalyst within the Consumer Electronics industry to design and install "Rooms of Magic" - private movie theaters - in children's hospitals across the country. Creating Rooms of Magic involves the generosity of industry dealers, manufacturers, media outlets and trade organizations in an effort to bring the magic of music and film to sick children and their families.
Vanderbilt Children's Hospital: See www.vanderbiltchildrens.com site for information on the new hospital.
Nicholson's: See www.nhfci.com site for information about Alex's company.

Room of Magic theater project at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital: Alex Nicholson of Nicholson's Hi-fi in Nashville, along with Doug Weinstein and Carol Campbell of the Elf Foundation, met with Jim Schmerling - CEO of the new Vanderbilt Children's Hospital - in November of 2002 to begin the planning of a 120-seat "Room of Magic" multi-purpose theater for the children and families that would be visiting the new hospital.
The scope of the project was quite large. The theater would be used primarily as a private screening room/movie theater for the children and families at the medical facility. Additionally, the media space would also incorporate a state-of-the-art video-teleconferencing center and have the potential to host special live events. The large conference space that houses the main Room of Magic theater, in addition to two smaller suites, features equipment from McIntosh Laboratories, Stewart Filmscreen, Digital Projections, Crestron, LG Electronics, Thiel Audio, Sharp Electronics, Chief Manufacturing and other manufacturers who have played a role in bringing this kid's theater to reality. The good folks at Nicholson's Hi-Fi of Nashville, Tennessee have managed all of the design and installation work and deserve the lion's share of the credit for the completion of this fascinating project.
