Primedia and XM Satellite Radio Raise $14,000 for 'Rooms of Magic'

Home Entertainment Show Benefit Concert and Live Auction

May 6, 2005 - New York City, NY

A benefit concert April 29th at the New York Hilton - featuring Medeski Martin & Wood and Holly Palmer - and a live auction, raised $14,000 for the Elf Foundation's "Rooms of Magic" theater program.

Major Elf corporate sponsors, Primedia and XM Satellite Radio, teamed up to provide an incredible night of music and good vibes in support of Elf's mission to bring the magic of music and film to sick kids across north America.

"It is our great pleasure to work with XM Radio in support of the Elf Foundation," Primedia's Home Entertainment Technology Group President Adam Marder weighed in. "Helping ease a young child's stay in a hospital or children's abuse center is noble work and Elf has demonstrated a consistent legacy of achievement which we are honored to be a part of."

A heartfelt introduction to the evening by XM Radio VP Brian Shea sent a ripple of magic through the crowd and perfectly captured the nature of Elf's work. A rather choked up Mr. Shea put the evening into the proper perspective, "I'm fortunate that I can see my kids play music or run around a ball field. Some parent's aren't so fortunate, so working together we can make a difference in some little lives and XM continues to support Elf with corporate donations and children's radio programming."

The evening kicked off with XM Radio's Beyond Jazz DJ Russ Davis introducing Holly Palmer and she didn't disappoint! The audience response was tremendous and called her back for an encore - uncommon for opening acts, to say the least.

The Elf Foundation staged a rapid-fire live auction as the stage was struck for Medeski Martin & Wood, with auction items generously provided by XM Radio, KEF, Home Theater Cruise, Crowson Technology and Rives Audio. Brian Shea kept sweetening the auction items with toss-ins supplied by Yamaha Electronics and Polk Audio.

Finally, Medeski Martin & Wood took the stage and put on a tremendous performance that had the audience literally dancing in the aisles-and the balcony-and in front of the stage-even out into the lobby! The show ended shortly before midnight and a good night was had by all.

"It's such a pleasure to see people truly enjoying themselves, knowing their support goes directly to touching the lives of a lot of special children," Elf founder Doug Weinstein commented. "What can I say about Primedia and XM? We wouldn't be where we're at without their generosity and continued support. Medeski Martin & Wood were awesome and can play an Elf benefit any time! We want to thank everyone who took part in the auction and concert and look forward to doing it again next year."
