'The Good News Newsletter' for October 2005
October 1, 2005 - Hollywood, CA
The best thing to give to your enemy is forgiveness; to an opponent, tolerance;
to a friend, your heart; to your child, a good example; to your father, deference;
to your mother, conduct that will make her proud of you; to yourself, respect;
to all men, charity.
Francis Maitland Balfour
Indianapolis - September 2005
The annual CEDIA EXPO convention was a tremendous success for the Elf Foundation. During opening ceremonies Friday, September 9th, Sam Runco, CEO of Runco International, and Billilynne Keller, Executive Director of CEDIA, unveiled the "Stars of Home Theater" that were on display during the course of the convention in the Runco booth. The "Stars" were fashioned to resemble Hollywood's Walk of Fame celebrity stars - names of 120 individuals and companies who donated $125 to the foundation were inscribed on the stars. As part of Runco's "Bringing Hollywood Home" booth design, the celebrity stars helped raise $15,000 for the foundation's ongoing mission.
Friday evening, the foundation held our annual party at the Westin Hotel. The good folks at Primedia once again underwrote this year's party. Maureen Jenson, editor of Home Theater Magazine, emceed the proceedings and the three Buzzes made a guest appearance impersonating Blue Man Group.
Saturday evening at the annual CEDIA EXPO banquet, Matt Scalici and Gary O'Donovan of Front Row Media Systems in Birmingham were honored as the Elf Foundation 2005 Volunteers of the Year for their exemplary work creating a special "Signature" theater at Alabama Children's Hospital, as well as their efforts forwarding the foundation's project work at the Arnold Palmer Women & Children's Hospital in Orlando.
On a personal note, Elf co-founder and Treasurer, Carol Campbell, was honored as one of the Top Ten Instructors of the Year for her riveting seminar, What Women Want: Selling Home Entertainment Systems to Benefit Her Lifestyle.
Phoenix - June 2005
The Elf Foundation had the honor of working with the Southwestern Autism Research and Rehabilitation Center (SARRC) in Phoenix on a Room of Magic theater. Managing the project for the foundation was Buzz Jensen of Scottsdale's Paradise Home Entertainment. Buzz put together a system featuring a Runco high definition plasma monitor, along with an audio system featuring Clement Loudspeakers, to create a special theater in Dawson's Dugout.
Buzz also assisted on the foundation's installation at Phoenix Children's Hospital in May. That Room of Magic theater featured a Toshiba 60" rear-projection system. Buzz's wife, Kari Jensen, sits on the Elf Foundation Board of Directors. (The fruit doesn't fall from the tree!)
Hollywood - October 2005
Work begins later in the month on the much-anticipated Room of Magic "Signature" theater at Cleveland Rainbow Babies Hospital. Tim Campbell of A-V Services is managing the project for the foundation. The large venue is being completely remodeled and the theater will feature a Runco projector, Stewart Filmscreen, Crestron automation, Legacy Audio speakers, and other products familiar to home theater enthusiasts. A thorough recap will be put together once the theater opens in late November.
Somewhere at Sea - October 2005
David Bott and Gary Reber of the Home Theater Cruise LLC once again have invited the Elf Foundation on board their annual Caribbean cruise event to help raise money for the foundation's core mission. Products being donated for auction are anticipated from Runco International, Monster Cable, Yamaha Electronics, Denon, DVDO, Lexicon, Lumagen, D-Box, Stewart Filmscreen, and more. We'll post a separate press release in early November recapping the auction results.
Hollywood - October 2005
Anika Ruff of Integrated Electronic Interiors has completed pre-wire for 5 new Room of Magic theaters at the Arnold Palmer Women & Children's Hospital in Orlando. We are anticipating completion of the theaters in early November, with a dedication ceremony to be held shortly before Thanksgiving. This is phase one of Elf's work at APWCH. Phase two will coincide with the hospital's renovation plans scheduled for 2007, with the introduction of a large, 80-seat capacity theater. Stay tuned for further coverage when the project is completed and we can get some pictures published.
Hollywood - October 2005
Harvey Electronics of metro-New York will begin work this fall on their second Elf Foundation Room of Magic theater project. Harvey CEO, Franklin Karp, has been generous in committing the pro bono work needed to put in three Room of Magic theaters at the New York Foundling's digs in the Chelsea District of Manhattan. NY Foundling takes care of disadvantaged children with severe physical disabilities, as well as providing shelters for abused children. This is the first of many projects Elf will be working on to benefit the NY Foundling organization.
About The Elf Foundation
The Elf Foundation was founded in July of 2001, with the express mission of creating private entertainment theaters ñ 'Rooms of Magic' - for childrenís hospitals, autism centers, shelters for abused kids, and terminally-ill hospices for children across the country. Operating as a 501 (c) 3 non-profit charity, the foundation acts as a catalyst within the consumer electronics industry and in local communities to advance their mission of bringing the magic of music and film to special kids in a time of need. To date, The Elf Foundation has opened over 50 'Room of Magic' theaters in the U.S. and Canada. For more information visit www.elfSystems.org.
