Kaleidescape Provides Movie Magic at The Children’s Hospital in Denver

May 14, 2008 -

When the 65th Room of Magic theater for the Elf Foundation debuted late last year at the brand new The Children’s Hospital, the theater quickly became the ‘talk of the town’, as kids and families were swept away with their own private big screen experience. The theater project, managed locally by the award-winning retail and custom integration firm, ListenUp, has now been upgraded to include a truly magical movie server system that has been generously provided by Kaleidescape, Inc.

“We are so honored to have Kaleidescape partner with Elf to add yet another magical experience to the foundation’s core mission,” said Douglas Weinstein, president of Elf Foundation. “From the sophisticated server system to the highly intuitive and fun-to-use interface, the Kaleidescape System will no doubt provide a remarkable experience for the in-patient population.”

The Kaleidescape System is an entertainment server that makes it much more fun and convenient to enjoy movies and music. It lets the hospital store their collection of DVDs on an array of fail-safe hard disk drives, automatically documents and organizes them, and makes them instantaneously available for viewing or listening in the Teen Center’s Room of Magic theater. The intuitive and entertaining Kaleidescape user interface provides various ways for the kids and staff to browse and select their movies and music. They can play, pause, resume, even bookmark and later jump to favorite movie scenes, create personalized scripts and play lists, and exercise parental controls over which movies and music are available depending on which age-group of children are enjoying the Room of Magic theater.

“We now have our Kaleidescape System fully installed into the Teen Center – it is wonderful!” said Michelle Bahn, Certified Recreation Therapy Specialist for the 6th Floor Rehabilitation Services Department. “We’re not sure we have fully figured out how many neat things we can do with this technology, but I am sure the staff and our patients will learn with time. Thank you so much for such a wonderful machine – I know that the kids will enjoy using it very much.”

The Kaleidescape System includes a 1U Server that reliably stores movies that are owned by The Children’s Hospital and which will be played exclusively in the Teen Center’s Room of Magic. Additionally, there are three 1 terabyte hard drives and a Movie Player 2, which is a high-performance audio/video component designed to import into and play back movies and music from the Kaleidescape Server.
